Visitors at the Nick Smith Centre got to check out the new renovations last Saturday.
On September 5th, the Nick Smith Centre opened their doors to thousands of patrons coming to tour the new facility and catch an OHL exhibition game.
Multiple years in the planning, the $7 million dollar renovation brings updates to the indoor arena pads, improved spectator stands for accessibility, a brand new mezzanine and more.
Graeme Ivory, Director of Recreation, Culture and Facility Services with the Town of Arnprior says it’s amazing to finally see the facility open in front of a sold out crowd.
Ivory goes on to say that the facility is a critical piece in the Arnprior community.
The renovations have been in the planning so long, that MPP Billy Denault was an Arnprior council member when the project was first pitched.
The facility holds a special place in Denault’s heart as he volunteered and worked at the Nick Smith Centre many years ago.
The grand reopening featured an OHL exhibition game between the Ottawa 67s and the Peterborough Petes. Unfortunately, the 67s fell to the Petes, 4-2.
Other improvements include upgrades to the heating systems for spectators, new arena boards and improved storage space.
