A shelter-in-place advisory issued for Deep River following a serious incident Wednesday has been lifted, but police are continuing to investigate.
The incident happened around 4:30 p.m. Sept. 9 in the area of McElligott Drive. One person was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The Ontario Provincial Police and Deep River Police Service are asking residents to remain vigilant and avoid the area of Golf Course Road and McElligott Drive, between Banting Drive and Granite Lane.
A precautionary shelter-in-place order was issued by police on Wednesday, which lasted until Thursday afternoon.
While the order was in effect, school buses were cancelled and classes at Mackenzie Community School and St. Mary’s School were cancelled on Thursday, and Deep River and District Health temporarily reduced its services and closed its primary care building.
Police say an increased presence will remain in the area while the investigation continues.
The investigation is being led by the Deep River Police Service, with assistance from the OPP Crime Unit and officers from the Upper Ottawa Valley and Bancroft detachments.
Police are asking anyone with information about the incident, including surveillance or dash-camera footage, to contact the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP at 1-888-310-1122 and reference incident number E261314886.
Anonymous tips can be provided through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or through Valley Tips.
