Algonquin College’s Pembroke Campus has dedicated a memorial bench in honour of longtime community builder, educator, author and advocate Jamie Bramburger.
The bench is located along the campus waterfront overlooking the Kitchissippi, or Ottawa River, and is intended to provide a place for students, employees and visitors to reflect on Bramburger’s contributions to the campus and the broader Ottawa Valley.
Bramburger was a longtime advocate for education, community development, storytelling and lifelong learning. During his career, he worked to build partnerships, create opportunities for students and promote Algonquin College’s Pembroke Campus and the region.
The bench was made by members of the campus community using a tree selected by Adam Johns, coordinator of the Carpentry and Renovation Techniques program, and Peter Arbour, coordinator of the Forestry Technician program.
Johns handcrafted the tree into the bench, while Carpentry professors Paul Hammel and Matthew Taylor installed a commemorative plaque.
The plaque includes the words: “Jamie leaves a legacy of connection, compassion, and enduring impact.”
The bench overlooks the waterfront, an area Bramburger often spoke about fondly. He enjoyed walking along the river and taking in the natural surroundings.
The college says the memorial will also offer an opportunity for those who visit the campus to learn about Bramburger’s contributions and reflect on his impact on the community.
