Construction begins to make an existing route a better option in anticipation of future development.
Roadwork is under way on Old Almonte Road between Jack Dalgity and Appleton Side Roads to improve the quality of the roadway.
Crews will be widening the existing roadway, replacing culverts, upgrading the surface from gravel to asphalt and adding paved shoulders.
Thomas Cavanagh Construction Ltd. was awarded the nearly $1.09M project at a council meeting in June.
Workers have already started to clear vegetation and is beginning the main road construction. The project is expected to complete later this fall.
