Time’s running out to drop off household hazardous waste.
The Household Hazardous Waste Depot in Renfrew closes for the season on August 29th at 2 p.m.
The depot can be used free of charge by residents from any of the following communities.
- Town of Renfrew
- Town of Arnprior
- Addington Highlands Township
- Admaston/Bromley Township
- Horton Township
- Greater Madawaska Township
- McNab/Braeside Township
- Whitewater Region Township
Many things are accepted at the depot such as used oil from oil changes, driveway and roof sealers, and paint. However, things like Asbestos, radioactive waste and fireworks are not accepted.
The full list of items accepted are:
- Paints: All types of paint, stains, varnish, spray paint, etc.
- Solvents: Turpentine, disinfectants, household cleaners, bleach, oven and drain cleaners, furniture strippers, ammonia, etc.
- Herbicides, pesticides, insecticides, weed killer, etc.
- Pool cleaners
- Propane Tanks
- Batteries: Small Standard, Button, Small Tool, Car, and Boat Batteries.
- Automotive Fluids: Used Oil, Brake Fluid, Gasoline, Antifreeze, etc.
- Oil filters
- Oil containers (empty or containing oil)
- Light Bulbs and Tubes (all types except PCB ballasts)
- Fire Extinguishers
- Aerosols
- Non-refillable pressurized containers: Acetylene, refrigerant, propane, helium & CO₂ cylinders.
- Pharmaceuticals/Medication (No needles)
- Mercury Bulb Thermostats and Switches
The depot is designed to accept household hazardous waste only, not commercial.
Small batteries, lightbulbs and electronics can be considered hazardous waste, however, they may be able to be turned in at a recycling program participating business or community centre.
