Municipal officials from across the Ottawa Valley are in Ottawa this week to meet with the province on key issues.
Council members and staff with the County of Renfrew and local municipalities, as well as Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke MPP Billy Denault, are in attendance at the Association of Municipalities of Ontario’s annual conference with the intention of sitting down with provincial ministers to advocate for affordable child care, seniors’ housing, healthcare, infrastructure, forestry, energy, transportation, and economic development.
Among their meetings to start the week have been discussions with Municipal Affairs and Housing Minister Rob Flack on growing and supporting strong, sustainable communities. The county has also committed to talks with the Ministries of Education, Energy and Mines, Finance, Health, Infrastructure, Natural Resources, and Transportation.
Denault also joined a delegation from the town of Renfrew and Effie Triantafilopoulos, Parliamentary Assistant for the Tourism, Culture, and Gaming Ministry, focused on the local importance of the tourism industry and the potential impacts of a new hotel within the community.
The AMO conference will continue through to the end of this Wednesday.
