Klaas and Johanna de Vries made the move from the Netherlands to Canada and the Ottawa Valley in hopes of finding the space and opportunity required to set up a farm of their own, establishing their homestead dairy operation along South McNaughton Road just outside of Renfrew in 2022.
Now producing close to 40,000 litres a milk each month, they balance working on the farm with raising three growing children, introducing them to a way of life they would not have been able to experience otherwise.
Any talks of handing off the business to the next generation are still far into the future, but the de Vries say they are regularly navigating the provincial dairy quota to find ways to grow the farm and ensure a solid future for their kids should they choose to take the challenge on.
