Provincial officials are putting plans in motion to find ways to make Highway 17 safer for motorists.
The Ministry of Transportation has tabbed engineering firm Parsons Inc. for a preliminary design assessment study that will explore improvements along Highway 17 and the Pinnacle Road/Storyland Road intersection.
The project team will review the current condition of the road and surrounding land, then develop alternatives to the current layout, which may include adding traffic signals, installing a roundabout, or converting the intersection into an interchange.
Seven fatal collisions have happened on Highway 17 since the start of 2026. Most recently, a 19-year-old Ottawa resident was killed in an incident near the affected intersection on Friday, July 17.
Community members will have the opportunity to provide input and submit questions and comments through the project’s website or by emailing the project’s managers.
