The province’s Minister of Rural Affairs says she’s thrilled by the Ottawa Valley’s MPP’s work to recognize rural Ontario communities everywhere.
A few months ago, the Ontario legislature backed a motion to declare the third week of September as Rural Ontario Week every year.
Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke’s MPP, Billy Denault, was the one who brought the motion forward. It ended up receiving unanimous support from all parties.
Lisa Thompson, the Minister of Rural Affairs, recognized Denault’s work to make Rural Ontario Week a reality at a recent press event.
Denault says it felt great to receive that unanimous support, and that it was an amazing opportunity to work with Thompson’s team to bring the issue forward.
The pair also had a message to share with all Renfrew County residents ahead of Rural Ontario Week:
Ontario is the first province to formally designate a recurring week celebrating the contributions of rural communities.
