Keeping kids from the Renfrew area entertained over the summer is no easy feat, but it’s an important way to give back for one volunteer.
Kiera Barter is in her fifth year as one of the counsellors overseeing the town’s summer camp programming at the myFM Centre. She fell in love with the camp while attending it as a kid, and being able to share that joy with the current generation of campers has been a rewarding experience.
Over the next two months, campers get daily opportunities to play, explore, and experiment, capped off every Friday with a special adventure in the community, which has included trips to the O’Brien Theatre, the McDougall Mill Museum, and even a visit with the mayor at Town Hall.
It’s a busy schedule that Barter says has been a blast to be a part of.
The town is always looking for volunteers to help with its programming and events, and Barter says those considering being part of next year’s round of summer camp should know that having a positive mindset goes a long way.
Visitors at the myFM Centre can expect to see campers and counsellors inside and outside of the arena during the day in July and August.
