With affordable housing presentations on the rise in Arnprior, one municipal councillor wants a consistency of approach to maximize the possibilities of success.
At the end of November 2023, elected representative received an approach from Habitat for Humanity GO, and no action was taken.
In the current calendar year, Renfrew County-based Ottawa Valley Affordable Housing (OVAH) shared its proposal- centred around a specific property- the parking lot at John and McGonigal Streets, January 26th.
On Monday June 8th, representatives heard from Ottawa-based Cahdco, who, with the support of Town Staff, shared a Technical pre-development analysis.
There are common element to the two schemes shared in Calendar 2026: construction would be on municipally-owned land, Build-Canada approved construction materials would be used, and a construction facility with trained workers supplying product would generate local jobs.
On each occasion a presentation has happened, Councillor Lynn Cloutier has shared her view that a common list of available municipal lands be shared with applicants.
The representative stresses that applying the principle of equity may increase the bid opportunities that are locally received.
Thus far, peers and staff have not joined the member in expressing similar sentiments.
Councillor Lynn Cloutier is also an employee of My Broadcasting Corporation Limited.
