We still haven’t ascertained who will post the signs, but everyone appears willing to point the way forward!
The White Lake Property Owners Association has taken to social media sites, What’s Up Arnprior and What’s Up McNab-Braeside to advise of blue-green algae in the Lake.
The algae has been microscopically identified as Anabaena blue-green algae. This alga can produce toxins harmful to fish, pets and humans.
The inspection system itself is based on user-reporting.
Here’s the procedure for getting that done:
Concerned individuals should get in touch with the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Climate Change and Parks at 866-663-8477.
The MECCP then conducts an investigation and testing.
If the presence of blue-green algae is indicated, it advises Southeast Health, which will send out a press release to the media.
You’ll want to think twice about swimming in White Lake, despite the lack of signage warning of the danger.
