A constable with the Renfrew OPP has been demoted for three years for slapping a female officer’s buttock while she was on duty.
In a November decision from the Ontario Police Arbitration and Adjudication Commission that was released in April, Constable Mark Condron was found guilty of misconduct in connection to an incident at an OPP charity golf tournament at the Renfrew Golf Club in June 2024, where he slapped the acting sergeant hosting the event while she was being interviewed by local media.
The OPP prosecution described the act as demeaning and embarrassing for the acting sergeant, who was a relatively junior member of the OPP at the time of the incident, adding that her superiors, colleagues, family, and members of the community were all present when it happened.
The prosecution had sought Cst. Condron’s dismissal, citing previous misconduct and claiming that he “is simply not fit to continue as an OPP officer.”
However, adjudicator and retired OPP Superintendent Chris Renwick believes that Condron could return as a contributing member of the OPP following ongoing rehabilitation and therapy, which he submitted to following past incidents.
Condron will be demoted to third-class constable for 18 months and to second-class constable for another 18 months before being fully reinstated.
