It’s telling the amount of comparisons there are between animals and humans- and, in Veterinary service the gaps are closing even further as time progresses. Megan Dugdale, a Veterinary Technician and Practice Manager at Gillies Grove Animal Hospital on Winners Circle Drive says the best thing she enjoys about her job is not what occurs on a daily basis- but the bonds that grow over time; watching clientele mature from puppies to older dogs, and all the while being a part of their lives is extremely rewarding. One of the challenges is that animals can’t speak- but Megan stands that conundrum on its head by musing, “Why can’t humans understand my malady?” Just as the dentist may not be a favourite place for people to visit, getting a dog to the vet can seem like pulling teeth- but that’s changing, with the “pre-veterinary prescription” putting the canine’s mind at ease. As well, some of us may still remember life before socialized medicine- and she encourages the comparable option of purchasing pet insurance to ease the pains of ownership.
