Here’s what’s going on in Arnprior and area over the next 48 hours.
Arnprior:
Today: Wednesday Baby Rhyme Time. Join the Library for its midweek story time of giggles and fun for babies and their caregivers. The event happens from 1130-Noon in Scharf Hall. Registration is required for this 6 week session which features stories, rhymes and of course lots of bubbles. Signup is underway, and you require valid library cards for both you and your baby to successfully register.
A Health Unit Outreach session occurs from Noon-330PM Wednesday in the Gaumond Room of the Main Library. Visit with one of Renfrew County District Health Unit nurses at the library to find out more about their services and resources. You’ll be able to pick up a well water testing kit, naloxone kits and information about the health unit’s various programs including immunization clinics, drug prevention, registration for the Canadian Dental Plan among many other services.
A Community Chess Club meet-up takes place from Noon-5PM in the Art Corridor of the Arnprior Public Library. This is an informal meetup for all ages and skill levels.
A Therapy Dog Visit happens every Wednesday from 3-330PM at the Arnprior Public Library as Clancy and his handler Angela to meet with library visitors. Clancy is a happy Glen of Imaal Terrier. His breed is originally from Ireland. They were farm dogs and used for hunting fox and badger. Stop by to meet Clancy as he gains more community hours through the St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog Program in partnership with the Arnprior Public Library.
LEGO Lounge takes place in the Main Community Hall of the Arnprior Public Library from 345-445PM for children ages 5 and up. This free drop-in program enables children to build with our extensive LEGO collection, and then have their creation placed on display in the library. Snacks are provided. Attending children need to present their Arnprior Library card.
Tomorrow: English Lessons for all levels are now being offered Thursdays from 1030AM-230PM in the Main Community Hall at the Arnprior Public Library. The event, in partnership with the Renfrew County District School Board will be offered until the end of June. Lana Johnston (English as a Second Language Instructor for Adults) will be hosting. There are 30 seats available, and registration is encouraged at the link posted on the Library events calendar.
A Mahjong Meet-up takes place from 1230-330PM each Thursday in the Arnprior Library’s Scharf (Scarf) Hall. Adults who are looking to learn this game are most welcome to join.
A Therapy Dog Visit happens every Thursday, as the Arnprior Library welcomes Cooper and his handler Carrie to meet with library visitors. Cooper is a super friendly Golden Retriever and always loves making new friends. Stop by to meet Cooper as he gains more community hours through the St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog Program.
Dungeons & Dragons happens Thursdays in the Arnprior Library’s Main Community Hall from 300-450PM. This Dungeons & Dragons program is for both experienced players and those new to the game. A Grief Support Group coordinated by Hospice Renfrew in partnership with the library takes place on the first Thursday of month in the tranquility of Scharf Hall from 445-615PM. For more information about this meet-up, please reach out to Hospice Renfrew 613-433-3993.
Take Note: The Arnprior and District Museum invites you to the Fibre Arts Drop In, to occur on Sunday June 14th at 2PM as local Spinner and Weaver Jenny Croft will lead a free, family-friendly public fibre arts drop in. Mississippi Mills:
Today: May features two new exhibitions at the Mississippi Valley Textile Museum. The Museum is open fron 1-4PM. “Carole Baillargeon: Rock Paper Scissors” and “Tartan: Culture & Cloth” will be on display until July 26th.
Over the last 40 years, Carole Baillargeon has developed a rich hybrid practice in visual arts, with references to manual trades, craft and scenography. Curated by José Niaison, four bodies of work have been brought together in “Carole Baillargeon: Rock Paper Scissors”, offering an overview of Baillargeon’s artistic considerations and technical approaches.
Hosted in partnership with Almonte Celtfest and curated by Meaghan Guthrie and Makayla Moore, “Tartan: Culture & Cloth” invites visitors to explore the history, heritage, and unexpected global journey of this iconic cloth. Tartan is more than just a fabric; it is a symbol of kinship, identity, and rebellion woven through centuries and across cultures.
