Precautions are always prudent.
The Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority issued an updated water conditions statement Wednesday (April 8th).
Mild temperatures and 30-50 mm of rain are expected over the next two weeks. This, combined with an accelerating snowmelt will see water levels rise along the Mississippi River and its tributaries.
Be wary of higher, faster-moving water, unstable banks and possible localized ice jams.
In addition to checking your sump pumps, keep backup pumps and generators at the ready. Move valuables out of your basements and secure items that might float away.
