At tonight’s 6:30 p.m. council meeting for the Municipality of Shawville, there will be a public delegation about the proposed demolition of the house located on 592 Rue King (King St.).
The Municipality must host a public delegation about the proposal because of a Quebec law passed in 2023, dictating that any property built before 194o is automatically deemed historically significant, and requires the public’s feedback on modification and/or demolition.
The property in question is a single family dwelling, which Shawville’s building inspector, Charles Gallant, said has been abandoned for at least 10 years.
Gallant said the current property owners purchased the land and house last fall, but after a thorough inspection conducted by Gallant, he said the structure is “unfortunately not economically feasible” for repair also noting the foundation had begun to collapse.
He said if the demolition is approved another bungalow is likely to take its place.
