Beachburg’s Russell Mackay, aka “Papa,” is once again stepping out for a cause, inviting residents to take part in Walk With Papa, a fundraising event scheduled for Feb. 22 in support of the Pembroke Regional Hospital Foundation.
The goal this time around is $25,000, and Shane Mackay, Papa’s son, says they are hoping to greatly surpass that target. Everyone is invited to help:
Papa has spent decades raising funds through walking initiatives for a range of charitable organizations. This year’s effort is focused on funding a new ophthalmology chair for the hospital, reflecting Mackay’s own experience after losing his sight in his early 60s. He told myFM recently how he found the inspiration to help others in need:
The walk will be held at the Pembroke Memorial Centre from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., with participants encouraged to join at any point during the event.
Proceeds will go toward enhancing comfort and accessibility for local eye-care patients. Additional details are available at walkwithpapa.ca.
