The eighth annual Penny Stashick Ugly Sweater Walk goes Saturday morning from Robert Simpson Park.
Son Derek Stashick says the event always evokes fond memories.
Derek says participants have the date etched in their memory.
Behind the scenes, Derek is an active fundraiser for the walk.
He says with a couple of days to go, the fundraising goal is within reach.
And if the goal is reached, it will mean the Ugly Sweater Walk will have raised 200k in 8 short years.
Derek notes that both the Upper Ottawa Valley Chamber of Commerce and Cold Bear Brewing
have their own Ugly Sweater events this year, and “the more the merrier.”
There are also prizes for the ugliest decorated businesses.
Over the eight years of the Penny Stashick Ugly Sweater Walk, Derek has seen all kinds of weather.
At the moment, this year, it’s looking like things will be cold.
Derek says there are pre-walk festivities from when registration begins until the walk gets underway.
Over the course of the Ugly Sweater Walk, the event has raised money for the
ARHF CT Scan Campaign, and now for the Hospital’s Endoscopy Drive.
