Renfrew Collegiate Institute’s new culinary classroom will keep families fed and make community involvement the nightly special starting this Friday.
The school has partnered with the METRO grocery store chain and Feed Ontario to launch the first METRO Shared Kitchen in the province, completely retrofitting the current facility in a way that teacher Michael Wright says will open up new opportunities for the community to connect over a common interest.
Wright has been tapping into his experience and contacts as the head of the Renfrew and District Food Bank to make RCI’s kitchen into a difference maker in the community worthy of the new collaboration, as his students have been helping families in need as part of a new class that started last spring.
Anticipation is already building from local groups interested in using the new-look kitchen, as Wright has already offered a tour to a few people curious about what they could do with the space.
Wright will be joined by students and staff, as well as representatives from the Renfrew County District School Board, METRO, and Feed Ontario, for the grand opening of the shared kitchen this Friday, November 14th, at 11:00 am.
