We’ve all heard talk about the coming renos to Union Hall in Mississippi Mills.
Elected representative got to hear first-hand this past Tuesday night.
The Council meeting opened with a delegation from Union Hall Board President Michael McGarry, who spoke of the importance of the rural community hub.
Union Hall was originally built in 1857, and has been a gathering place for dances, weddings, gatherings and concerts for generations.
The hall is managed by a non-profit and is run by volunteers.
Over the years, it has added amenities to match the growing needs of the community—such as a basement and kitchen—but it is yet to add heating, limiting operations during the winter.
That’s coming, as Union Hall has been awarded an Ontario Trillium Foundation Grant to install a heat pump and insulate the walls of the community centre, allowing for more community use in the future.
President McGarry highlighted their new five-year business plan, which involves continued municipal support for rural social well-being.
