A lack of uniformity in when County Tax Rate data is calculated has required the Town of Carleton Place to re-state the Upper Tier portion of the 2025 Municipal Tax Bill.
The initial approved By-law 23-2025, passed on April 22nd, was based on incomplete data, as one laggard lower tier municipality did not publish its County-related portion until June 17th, thus skewering calculations.
Because of the missing data, the Town was forced to input 2024 Lanark County Rates- which have now been corrected, and revised notices have been issued on Lanark County’s behalf.
This error resulted in a tax adjustment across the Town of Carleton Place in the amount of $251,993.94.
To ensure that this does not occur in the future, Treasurers in Lanark County will communicate the date they have completed entering their rates to the rest of the group. Future Tax Notices will not be prepared or sent until all lower tiers have confirmed completion.
