Mississippi Mills Council has discussed how it can help influence a pending decision by the Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority to abandon custody of the R. Tait McKenzie and James Naismith collections by the end of next season.
The MVCA is recommending to replace the collections and turn the Mill of Kintail facility into a water/watershed museum, with possible approval by its board as soon as September.
The Municipality acknowledges Mississippi Mills is not the decision maker and has limited influence on the Board’s decision.
There are a number of steps open to the public, and these include responding to the MVCA’s survey about the Mill of Kintail Strategic Plan Update, indicating if you do/or do not support this transition of the museum: https://mvc.on.ca/mill-of-kintail-strategic-plan-update/
The Town may also seek to lobby Provincial and Federal authorities on behalf of retaining the collections, which represent a influence in local- and national history.
