The great thing about cruising around Town to find What’s Open and What’s Closed in the community is that you never know how your list will turn out until you’ve made the rounds.
Although Civic Holiday is a Provincially-mandated day-off, and banks are federally-regulated, the first Monday in August as a non-working tradition had its origins in Britain as “Bank Holiday”, so who are our financial organization to snub long-standing practice? Banks and Credit Unions are closed today.
The Post Office is also federally-regulated, but its holiday schedule is governed by collective agreement, and August 4th it will be closed all day. Other government services, be they the Town of Arnprior, various departments under the governance of Renfrew County, or federal agencies have also opted to be closed for the day Monday.
The LCBO is Open Monday from 11AM-6PM. The Beer Store is closed.
One (or more) pharmacies in the community must remain open, and Shoppers Drug Mart is, from 8AM-10PM.
No Frills and Metro in uptown Arnprior are open on a reduced schedule: 8AM-6PM at both venues; while Giant Tiger on Elgin Street will be open Monday from 8AM to 5PM.
Convenience Stores are generally open- and while there is no bylaw in Arnprior requiring businesses to be closed on Civic Holiday, most reward their employees by granting a day off.
Enjoy your holiday! And remember, Oldies 107.7 news and features return to our broadcast lineup Tuesday morning at 6AM.
