There are new proposed formulas for bees and chicken coming to McNab-Braeside. They will apply on smaller property parcels, within all zoning designations.
For Beekeeping: Less than 1 acre – not permitted; 1–2 acres – up to 5 hives; 2–5 acres – up to 15 hives;
Over 5 acres – unrestricted.
The buzz is that there will also be a hive location registry, proof of insurance requirement, full compliance with provincial stipulation, including setbacks; provision of access to clean water, and mandatory training.
Before you squawk about the above, here’s the cackle on Backyard Chickens:
Revisions to the existing by-law will now allow: Less than 1 acre – up to 6 chickens; 1–2 acres – up to 12 chickens; 2–5 acres – up to 20 chickens and Over 5 acres – unrestricted.
Coop permits will continue to be required.
These changes will be considered and likely passed at the Regular Meeting of McNab-Braeside on June 17th.
