Bill 5 has been passed by the Ontario Legislature. It’s one of the items in Premier Ford’s promised tool kit to fight the Trump Tariffs, and creates economic zones within the Province where standard Environmental practices are exempted.
A de-facto coalition including the Official Opposition, members of the third party, Environmental and labour activists and Indigenous elders opposed the vote- either on the legislative floor, from the public gallery at Queen’s Park- or on the lawn of the ledge, and they say the fight will continue.
That’s Sandra Stephens, a member of the Save the Grove Again Committee.
She says Bill 5 is a rake with many prongs, but it’s still uncertain whether Arnprior falls within its swath.
While folks are still looking at the legislation with a fine-tooth comb in that regard, there are many reasons to be riled over just what Bill 5 does. Stephens quotes Ontario CUPE President Fred Hahn.
So if you don’t want Premier Ford jumping on a pile of leaves in your backyard?
