The two World Wars weren’t fought in a day- Remebrance is more than the eleventh day of the eleventh month at the eleventh hour.
A special commemoration happens this Sunday.
The Almonte Legion will hold its annual remembrance ceremony for the Battle of the Atlantic, May 25.
The Battle of the Atlantic took place from 1939 to 1945 and was the longest continuous battle of the Second War.
Canada played a key role in the Allied struggle for control of the North Atlantic, including losses incurred by our forces and members of the Merchant Marine- as German U-Boat submarines worked furiously trying to cripple convoys shipping supplies to Europe.
The commemoration begins at 2PM, waterside, at the Almonte Old Town Hall.
A reception will follow at the Legion (100 Bridge Street).
