Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for a potential ice storm this weekend.
The government forecaster says significant ice build-up from freezing rain could occur, causing possible utility outages, slippery surfaces and broken tree branches from late Friday through Monday.
As part of your emergency kit, make sure you have a battery-powered radio. Check your flashlights and ensure that you have working batteries for them and make sure your cell phone and other devices are charged when the storm begins.
Don’t forget to keep an eye on elderly or infirm neighbours; they will appreciate it.
