Julie Dewar is an Ottawa Valley mom who has been through the most difficult year of her life and still has some challenges ahead.
The soundtrack for her recovery from a devastating medical episode included plenty of American singer-songwriter Jelly Roll, whose heartfelt and inspiring songs helped her through those most challenging of times.
Dewar, a McNab-Braeside resident, has come a long way in her recovery and is thrilled to be heading to Friday night’s concert in Ottawa, thanks to her mom who gifted her tickets, and the community that supported her transportation (accommodating her wheelchair).
Now her friends, including Julie Burns, are appealing to the famous musician and his wife Bunny, to possibly meet with or recognize Dewar and her incredible accomplishments in some way.
Burns outlines Dewar’s story in a heartfelt TikTok video, explaining that she was 28 weeks pregnant with her second baby and had a two-year-old at home when she suffered a rare neurological medical episode that left her in a coma and suffering significant brain damage.
During this, she delivered a healthy baby who is healthy and developing well, thanks to an amazing family and support system and the hard work and conviction of Dewar herself.
Dewar has had to learn to walk and talk again, is still currently in a wheelchair, and is continuing in therapy.
Jelly Roll’s music played a central theme throughout this challenging journey.
Burns goes on to report that, despite the incredibly difficult challenges she’s faced, Dewar manages to keep smiling every single day.
Burns asks TikTok users to share the video and speaks directly to the music star and his wife in her appeal.
Jelly Roll plays the Canadian Tire Centre in Kanata on Friday, March 21.
