Tourism in Ontario is one that’s seeing a lot of stress from recent trade negotiations and tariffs between the US and Canada.
Tourism Industry Association of Ontario President Andrew Siegwart says that in talking to operators, many of them still spend a lot of money on materials from the states.
He adds that a number of businesses have changed their ways to support more local and Canadian companies since the tariff talks began earlier this year.
Another difference that Siegwart has noticed is more Americans coming over to Canada as tourists because of the stronger American dollar.
The TIAO works behalf of its members to take on pressing policy issues that impact the Ontario tourism industry through their policy strategy and government communications.
