It was a chilly “ground breaking” ceremony at the Glenn Arthur Rink at the Nick Smith Centre Friday (February 14th), as the long-awaited NSC refurbishment has begun.
Arnprior Recreation Director Graeme Ivory updates us.
Ivory notes an irony that keeps sticking in his mind.
Ice will remain intact in the Bert Hall Rink until mid-March.
It’s a short timeline to get everything done- and of course this year, no summer ice.
The Recreation Director says much of the construction battle will be fought in the trenches.
While the mechanical refit was what got the planning going, the end product will be both highly functional, and just a little spectacular.
Ivory says you may not recognize the reconfigured Bert Hall Arena.
And the design elements and functionality continue.
Graeme calls the descriptions to mind off the top of his head- he’s reviewed the blueprints that many times!
It’s the Ontario Election that’s put a pause on the question, “Who’s paying for all this?”
March 16th will see the ice out in both arenas, with renovations currently slated to be finished in October.
