Monday afternoon was a busy one for fire crews in Kinburn, east of Arnprior, as they battled a massive barn fire.
At 1:17 p.m. Oct. 28, Ottawa Fire Services Communications Division received a 9-1-1 call from a resident reporting that a car had caught fire inside their barn in the 2900 block of Kinburn Side Road.
Officials say the caller reported that the barn contained fuel and other combustibles. The barn was also filled with antique sleds and carriages.
Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed smoke and flames coming from all four sides of the 150ft x 75ft barn.
“Firefighters initiated a fast attack and advanced several hose lines towards the barn. An aerial ladder was set up at the scene to attack the fire from above,” reads a notice on OFS X. “There were no animals inside the barn and all the individuals inside the barn when the fire started safely exited.”
Because the fire was in an area with no hydrants, firefighters used tanker trucks to shuttle water to the scene from a nearby water source.
Officials say the structure began to collapse around 2:12 p.m. and the fire was declared under control at 4 p.m.
“An excavator was called to the scene to move the debris to extinguish hot spots,” reads the post. Fire crews remained on scene into the night.
