You’ll see the roadside signs going up this weekend, meaning we’re not far away from another Terry Fox Run.
This is the 44th edition of the run; local organizer Denise Johnston tells us it occurs not only in Canada- but in places where there is a Canadian military presence, just to cover all the bases.
The event, Sunday September 15th, will take place at Robert Simpson Park in Arnprior. Start times have been rejigged to enhance volunteer participation.
While one is welcome to participate for the camaraderie, it is a fundraiser- and signing up can be done with a minimal number of clicks.
Over the 43 previous years, the Terry Fox Run has amassed over 800 million dollars in the efforts to eradicate cancer- and in that time, the sort that took down Terry, osteoscarcoma, is no longer necessarily fatal.
Denise says the 44th edition of the Run sees a new partnership in the community.
While it’s rumoured Terry Fox is still in the running to be on Canada’s new five dollar bill, his image will be large as life at the September 15th run.
Denise Johnston, run organizer, will join us again on a future Community Spotlight, in the lead-up to the annual Terry Fox Run.
