Maybe you’ve been wondering if it’s safe to start drinking SILK milk again.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) Wednesday released a statement on the ongoing food safety investigation related to the recall of various Silk and Great Value brand plant-based refrigerated beverages.
Listeria monocytogenes contamination had impacted the Silk and Great Value brands back on July 8th.
The CFIA investigation isolated the issue to production in Pickering at Danone Canada and Joriki Inc. plants there.
All affected products were removed from the marketplace, but the CFIA urges Canadians to remain vigilant as some product may still be in domestic circulation.
The contamination has been traced to a dedicated production line for the manufacture of these milk substitutes. The line has been completely taken apart, and no production will resume until CFIA is satisfied all necessary corrective measures have been implemented.
Danone Canada and Joriki Inc. (Pickering) have been engaged and are fully cooperating in this process.
The CFIA will continue to monitor and assess this work to ensure the safety of Canadians.
