UPDATE: Thursday 2:20 P.M.
No injuries have been reported, and a home under construction was untouched despite a nearby explosion in Golden Lake.
North Algona Wilberforce Fire Chief Kevin Champ says his crew were sent to Kokomis Road near the bridge to Pikwakanagan First Nation just before 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31st, after reports of an explosion.
Pikwakanagan Fire were first on the scene but quickly called in their North Algona Wilberforce counterparts once they realized it was outside their jurisdiction.
Chief Champ explains that the property had a large amount of construction debris that was being burned in a pit. He believes a small propane cylinder was in the debris and made it into the pit, causing the explosion.
Fire crews extinguished the fire, and heavy equipment was used to fill the pit before it could reach the home.
The Office of the Fire Marshal was contacted due to the explosion, but Champ says they will not be conducting an investigation.
