Ontario’s labour minister says requiring menstrual products on large construction sites will help encourage more women to look to the trades for a career.
The requirement will apply to sites of 20 workers or more where construction is expected to last at least three months. The Working for Workers bill also will require employers at construction sites and other workplaces to keep washrooms clean and sanitary and keep records of cleaning.
Labour Minister David Piccini says the new regulatory requirement is part of a new piece of legislation introduced this week.
The legislation would see fines increased for violations of the Employment Standards Act.
It would also do away with sick note requirements for short absences in an effort to decrease workloads for overworked family doctors.
