Mississippi Mills staff have ongoing concerns regarding the stability of the structure of the Dungarvon Building, located at 38 Main Street East in Almonte.
The Municipality undertook temporary repairs to the belltower of the premises this winter, and on Monday (May 6th) demanded the property owner provide a comprehensive building report outlining any further remedial work that may be needed to ensure the building’s safety and fully reopen Main Street to traffic.
Choices range from making the needed repairs, or tearing the building down.
The property owner can hire professionals to carry out terms of the Town’s edict, or authorize the Chief Building Official t arrange the necessary work.
Given the building’s nearness to power lines, staff continue to work with Ottawa River Power Corporation (ORPC) on a contingency plan.
The temporary traffic lights along Main Street East will remain in effect until further notice.
