Thursday is Next Gen Farmer Day on Oldies 107.7, a chance to learn more about the young innovators who have taken over family farms in the Valley- or who are contemplating or in the process of doing so.
Candidates for our special day were suggested by 4H leader Leah Dean- and most of whom were, at one time, under her tutelage as a 4H leader.
The 4 H’s are Head, Heart, Hands and Health.
The official 4-H emblem is a green four-leaf clover with a white H on each leaf standing for Head, Heart, Hands, and Health. The stem of the clover always points to the right.
The organization was founded in 1902 in the United States.
Leah says that with today’s farming challenges, 4H provides a good grounding.
She says the program can follow you from grade school, to graduation- and beyond.
The 4H program trains you to think on your feet.
Every meeting follows a similar format aiming for the same end result.
4H provides a commonality of farming experience that stands one in good stead.
The 4H formal pledge was adopted by the organization in 1927, and memorized by many.
Leah wasn’t born into the farming life- but has come to love it from her early initiation.
As we’ve indicated, Leah Dean suggested our diversity of Next Gen Farmers for tomorrow’s feature.
We’ll be hearing from Stephanie Nanne, Ian McGregor, Leigh Hudson-Templeton, Ashley Knapton and Mike Sullivan- many of whom were taught by Lean, and couldn’t say no.
