You can help the Arnprior Rotary Club celebrate Earth Day with a community cleanup planned for this Saturday, April 20.
Annual, rotary members gather to take part in the Great Lakes Watershed Cleanup.
“We are all connected. Our Great Lakes Watershed includes the Madawaska and Ottawa rivers, which flow into the St Lawrence River. All of our ground trash that gets into local creeks and rivers will wash downstream,” reads a press release. “We welcome and urge all Arnprior people to get behind this year’s Earth Day Clean up.”
The Rotary Club has traditionally enlisted the assistance of Arnprior District High School students and are happy to join forces with other groups in town, including The Great Arnprior Trash Hunt, which is also happening on April 20 and includes a barbecue.
The targeted site for this year’s cleanup is the Algonquin Trail, east and west of Daniel Street by the Rotary Bicycle Repair Station, and in the vicinity of the former LCBO.
Participants are invited to park in the area and meet at 9 a.m. for sign-in, orientation and to get supplies. Or, you can sign in at Mallard’s Milk Bar where the barbecue lunch will be served at noon.
“Reminder that there is always the possibility of poison ivy or ticks in the grass, as well as uneven terrain, so please wear appropriate attire. Good closed toe shoes or boots, long sleeves, pants, sun protection and some work gloves are recommended. Bring along family and friends – come join us!” reads the release.
The cleanup runs from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Monday, April 22 is Earth Day.
