The Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has taken a significant step forward in addressing a concerning incident that transpired in Carleton Place.
The incident unfolded on March 14, 2024, along the Ottawa Valley Rail Trail within the Rosamond Street/Bell Street area. It involved two girls, both below the age of 16, who reported being subjected to inappropriate sexual comments by an individual.
In response to these reports, an extensive investigation was launched by the Lanark OPP Crime Unit, in collaboration with frontline officers from the Carleton Place office of the Lanark Detachment. This thorough inquiry culminated in the apprehension of a suspect on March 19, 2024.
Identified as Hans Hauner, aged 57, and a resident of Carleton Place, the individual in question now faces charges related to the incident. These charges include invitation to sexual touching-under 16 years of age and communicating with anyone under 18 for the purpose of obtaining sexual services.
Following his arrest, Hauner has been released from custody under mandatory conditions. He is scheduled to make an appearance before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on April 22, 2024.
The OPP has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all individuals within the community. They encourage anyone with information related to this incident or any other similar occurrences to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.
