The Quyon Ferry has made Ottawa Valley History!
Thursday’s opening date (The March 7th opening date) is the earliest-ever- and that’s saying something, given that the conveyance has been in continuous seasonal operation for more than a century.
Initially operational in 1885 the Quyon Ferry was horse-drawn (and no don’t imagine the equines were pulling it; rather two bay horses provided the hp while attached to a turnstile and drive shaft).
Today’s electric powered cable ferry can accommodate up to 21 cars, the largest road-worthy trucks, trailers and farm equipment (or combination thereof) and is the largest ferry on the Ottawa River.
Scheduled crossing are every ten minutes between Fitzroy Harbour (5692 Ferry Road) and the Quebec dock at 3 Ferry Road, Quyon.
Operating hours are 5:30AM to 8PM Monday to Thursday; Friday, 5:30AM to 9PM; Saturday, 7AM to 9PM and Sunday, 7AM to 8PM.
Payment options are cash or debit, with fares dependent on vehicle size and type, with special passes for regulars; contact the ferry directly or visit the website for pricing information.
