Of those who worked with Glenn Arthur during his thirty-six year tenure as Rec Director with the Town of Arnprior, safe to say no one knew “Archie” longer than former Public Works Director and retired municipal councillor Ted Strike.
But their mutual acquaintance began at another job site, the former Town of Almonte, where Strike was also Public Works Director back in 1971.
Glenn Arthur, born in Almonte, served in the role for five years.
Flash-forward to 1982 in Arnprior, where Ted was again a Public Works Director.
Legislation had changed, and the position of Recreation Director was then a highly-technical operations role tending to ice plant maintenance.
The pair knew each other throughout Glenn’s entire tenure as Arnprior Recreation Director; so, is it hard to pick a favourite memory?
Glenn Arthur sprung into action.
Glenn Arthur went out of his way to send a message of hospitality to the stranded visitors.
It was Arnprior’s mini-version of Come From Away.
We say our collective farewell to Glenn Arthur at the arena that bears his name- this Sunday at Noon, with Reception to follow at the Nick Smith Centre Community Hall.
