While there are no regularly scheduled flights in and out of the Arnprior Airport, we all benefit in that the facility is on standby for ORNG medical evacuations in case of emergency.
The relationship between the former South Renfrew Municipal Airport and the local jurisdiction has evolved over time.
That’s Johnny Constantinesco, Airport Commission Board Chair, Manager and sometimes Maintenance man.
While the Arnprior Airport is not municipally-owned, the Town benefits from tax revenues from the Airport’s subdivided hangar and related aeronautics facilities without having to provide maintenance services.
Constantinesco says McNab-Braeside and Renfrew are no longer players in what began as a triple partnership- and the association between the not-for-profit Airport Commission and the community is more arms-length than its ever been.
With changes in personnel both on the Airport Commission Board and Arnprior Council since 2018, the municipality has lost its defacto voting majority.
Prior to this time the Town of Arnprior had included an Airport audit as part of its own annual fiscal review.
The Airport Commission Chair says although the misunderstanding has been clarified to everyone’s satisfaction, the irony is that the cost of doing an audit effectively reduces needed municipal grant proceeds by 20 thousand dollars.
