The Renfrew County Catholic District School Board (RCCDSB) has announced it will not go ahead with a reconfiguration plan for Renfrew and Arnprior schools in September 2024.
In a Jan. 11 letter, parents were notified that after gathering feedback from the Renfrew/Arnprior families of schools (both staff and parents) at in-person meetings and in an anonymous survey, a decision was made to not move forward with the reconfiguration at this time.
The reconfiguration plan consisted of: St. Joseph’s Catholic High School in Renfrew (which is currently Grade 8-12) becoming Grade 7-12; St. Thomas the Apostle and Our Lady of Fatima in Renfrew, as well as St. Joseph’s Calabogie, becoming junior kindergarten to Grade 6; and St. John XXIII, St. Joseph’s Arnprior and St. Michael’s Douglas remaining status quo with an option for students to attend St. Joseph’s High School in Renfrew for grades 7, 8 or 9.
The letter was signed by Heidi Fraser, RCCDSB superintendent of educational services.
Construction is currently ongoing at St. Joseph’s High School on an addition that will house a new St. Thomas the Apostle school.
