The Ottawa Police Service has announced the recovery of the second youth reported missing after four individuals fell through the ice on the Rideau River December 27th.
OPS members and emergency crews were called to Nicolls Island Road late Wednesday night after reports of four youths who had fallen through ice on the Rideau River.
The first call came at about 945PM.
Two of the youths were immediately rescued from the water and were taken to CHEO by Ottawa Paramedics.
Two more youths, 16 year old and 17 year old males, were not initially located, but police divers later found the body of one of the missing youths.
The OPS tweet shared this morning (December 29th) is as follows:
“Update: Following an extensive search effort, the Ottawa Police Service Marine Unit has recovered the body of the second deceased youth who went missing in the Rideau River last night. We extend our deepest condolences to the families, friends, and all those affected by this tragic loss. This incident profoundly impacts us all, and our hearts go out to those who are grieving.”
