You may recall hearing reports of gunshots in Carleton Place last Wednesday (May 17th). Perhaps you even heard them yourself.
Lanark OPP say they responded to several reports at the time, regarding an incident around midnight in the Sussex and Princess Street area of Town.
The police investigation reveals one person sustained minor injuries.
Subsequently, Ahmad Hassan, age 29 of Gatineau, has been arrested and charged with Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose; Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm; Pointing a firearm;
Careless use of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition; Reckless discharge of firearm – life or safety; Discharge a firearm into or at a place in a reckless manner; Discharge a restricted firearm or prohibited firearm with intent; Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to probation order.
In addition to the gun offences, Hassan is also charged with: Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court; Uttering Threats – to cause death or bodily harm and Aggravated Assault.
The accused was held in custody.
As this matter is currently under investigation no further information will be released at this time.
