The second weekend of competition at the 2023 Ontario Winter Games in Renfrew County featured two local athletes.
15-year-old Chadd Stoppa of Barry’s Bay won a bronze medal in sledge hockey with the Niagara Thunderbolts.
10-year-old Madelyn Cazabon of Arnprior finished eighth in Wushu and competed in ten different challenges over three days.
Ma-te-Way Park in Renfrew and the Calabogie Highlands Golf Club also hosted major winter events for the first time as trails were groomed for cross-country, para cross-country skiing and a biathlon course.
The Renfrew County 2023 Ontario Winter Games featured eight days of competition with 22 different sports.
Peter Emon, the Warden for Renfrew County and Chair of the Games Organizing Committee, says the Committee worked long hours to set the stage for these Games and create a meaningful experience for the athletes and volunteers.
Games Manager Cindy Burwell says it was so great to see these young athletes compete at this level and receive such wonderful support from the community, which was truly astounding. Burwell extended a huge thank you to all of the volunteers who helped out.
