Born in Toronto, but coming to us from New Mexico in the position of Manager of Culture and Curator at the Arnprior District Museum is Emily Stovel, who is in the process of settling into her new position.
While she follows in the footsteps of acclaimed curator Janet Carlile who retired on the Canada Day weekend, Stovel has a few ideas of her own to preserve some of our local oral traditions- and while you may detect a slight New Mexico accent now, it may not be long afore she adopts some Valley mannerisms.
Locals are well aware of the unique architecture to what began as the community’s first Post Office, designed by Dominion architect Thomas Fuller in 1896, but it doesn’t get the traffic it used to draw in the snail mail era.
Stovel can see building on the present body of work by adding more of a multi-media component.
And of course, there’s the matter of looking into expanding museum hours to increase the count of patrons coming through its doors.
