Local police are sharing some winter driving tips. The OPP says stay alert, slow down and stay in control.
Environment Canada is calling for periods of light snow across the Ottawa Valley overnight Tuesday with another two centimeters of snowfall possible on Wednesday, November 16th.
Provincial police say drive according to the road and weather conditions and reduce speed when adverse weather conditions arise.
The OPP says keep a safe distance between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you, give yourself extra time to reach your destination, consider installing four winter tires, have good wiper blades and keep windshield washer fluid in your vehicle.
Drivers are also reminded to clean frost and snow off all windows, mirrors and lights.
The OPP has shared a list of items recommended to carry in your vehicle.
- A charged cell phone in case of an emergency
- An ice scraper, snow brush, a small shovel, sand, salt or other traction aid
- Booster cables, road flares, fuel line anti-freeze, and tow rope
- Extra clothing and footwear, a blanket, high energy non-perishable food, matches and a candle
- Flashlight, small tool kit, first aid kit
