The candidates for Deputy Mayor, Ward Councillors, and trustees for local school boards in Mississippi Mills met with a packed house at the Almonte Civitan Hall last Thursday (September 29th).
Janet Duncan, president of the Hub Rebound group moderated the evening, which was divided into three segments.
Deputy Mayoral candidates spoke first, followed by the nominees for Town Council and finally, those seeking to represent the community on the two School Boards.
All nominees provided five minutes of background information about themselves, followed by live questions from audience members to end the forum.
A three-way race for Deputy Mayor sees former Ramsay Councillor Paul Watters pitted against David Hincks, who also sought the position in 2018, and incumbent Rickey Minnillie, who was selected for the job following the death of John Levi in December of that year.
There’s a race in Almonte Ward, where sitting members John Dalgity and Jan Mayden are opposed by former councillor Jane Torrance, who lost her seat trying to become Deputy Mayor in 2018.
In Ramsay Ward, two beneficiaries of the 2018 PRATAC sweep, Bev Holmes and Cynthia Guerard are being challenged by newcomer Vicki Lowe.
Electronic voting is in effect in all Lanark County municipalities.
